Teachers in Placer County school district file lawsuit, grievance over COVID safety concerns |
The Rocklin teachers union filed a lawsuit and a class-action grievance with the Public Employment Relations Board against the Rocklin Unified School District for what they claim is a change of policy on how the district handles students and staff who may have COVID-19 symptoms. Travis Mougeotte, president of the Rocklin Teachers Professional Association, said the district’s management failed to follow the memorandum of understanding signed in August that provided safety measures for students and teachers when Rocklin schools reopened campuses.

If San Diego County falls to purple tier, here’s how schools might be affected |
Thanks to persistently high COVID-19 case rates, San Diego County is days away from potentially landing in the purple tier, the most-restrictive level of the state’s COVID-19 monitoring system, which would mean that schools that have not started teaching at least some students in person would lose their chance to reopen.
Falling into the purple tier would mean San Diego County’s closed schools would not be able to reopen until Dec. 16 at the earliest, or five weeks after Tuesday.

Smart thermometers being used at Chico Country Day, Thermalito schools |
With schools reopening for in-person learning in Butte County, a Chico charter school and the Thermalito Union School District, have incorporated the use of smart thermometers for families. Chico Country Day School and the seven schools within the Thermalito Union School District are among just 4,000 schools nationwide to receive smart thermometers made by the company Kinsa. Parents have the option to sync the digital oral thermometers to their smartphone where the data is aggregated into an app. From there, the app can display the temperatures and symptoms other kids are experiencing. The data is anonymous and is only displayed by grade level, said Jane Putnam, the director of Communications for Kinsa.

El Rancho Unified voters approve term limits for board members |
El Rancho Unified voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure to limit board members to serving only two consecutive terms. After terming out, board members must wait another four years before they can run for office again, the new law says. The district had no term limits until now, though none of its members have served two full four-year terms. The new law will apply to both sitting and recently elected members.
