OCDE NEWSROOM

You’re invited! OC Pathways Showcase to highlight partnerships between educators and industry
Orange County has built a reputation as a national and international hub for innovative companies and leading-edge educational institutions. And through an initiative called OC Pathways, those companies and institutions are working together to equip tomorrow’s workforce — even during a global pandemic. The sixth annual OC Pathways Showcase, set to take place from 9 to 10 a.m. on Nov. 18, will highlight local efforts to create coordinated career paths, and it will promote new opportunities for industry leaders and educators to collaborate. This year’s theme is “Your workforce is here … and it is resilient!”

ACEs Aware initiative trains thousands of health care providers in trauma-informed care
It’s not just our local schools that are recognizing the importance of screening for adverse childhood experience, or ACEs, and the importance of trauma-informed practices. A new report released earlier this month by the Office of the California Surgeon General and the Department of Health Care Services found that nearly 14,000 health care providers in California have completed the ACEs Aware initiative’s core training program. The training program, “Becoming ACEs Aware in California,” is a free, two-hour online training that walks through patient cases for pediatric, internal medicine, family medicine and women’s health providers.

Leading school superintendents ask Gov. Newsom to impose a ‘common standard’ for reopening schools in California
Seven urban California school districts, including the state’s four largest, have called on Gov. Gavin Newsom to adopt and pay for more stringent, uniform health and safety requirements they say should be in place before bringing students back to school during the pandemic. “It will take collective action and additional funding to bring students, teachers and staff back to schools in the way that is as safe as possible and sustainable for the long-term,” they said in a Nov. 2 letter organized by Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Austin Beutner and signed by the superintendents of San Diego, Long Beach, Fresno, Santa Ana, Sacramento and Oakland unified school districts.
