Cypress School District moves to acquire new administrative headquarters

The Cypress School District has found a new home for its administrative headquarters. At a special meeting last week, the Cypress Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a commercial office building located at 5816 Corporate Ave. to replace an aging central office that was built more than 50 years ago.

Suicide prevention seminar ‘an eye-opener’ for Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario parents

A year after four Rancho Cucamonga students killed themselves in an eight-day period, two school districts paired up for a suicide prevention seminar on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Geared to inform parents, students and the community, the workshop was presented by the Chaffey Joint Union High School District and the Ontario-Montclair School District and was held at the Merton E. Hill Auditorium in Ontario.

California’s widely criticized ethnic studies plan to be revised

The question of how best to represent all Californians when teaching ethnic studies is back on the table. Monday State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced a plan to revise the proposed ethnic studies curriculum and to bring it back to a vote of the State Board of Education in 2020.

Removing lead from water would be priority in proposed school construction bond

The first significant state funding to test and remove lead from drinking water in California’s schools is included in a state construction bond that will appear on the March 2020 ballot if Gov. Gavin Newsom signs the bill that the Legislature passed on Friday.

Newsom cracks down on vaping — and asks the Legislature for help

With an executive order, Newsom wants to crack down on black market vaping products, fund more public awareness campaigns and raise taxes on e-cigs. The order directs state regulators to crack down on the sale of black market vaping products, develop new anti-smoking public awareness campaigns and target under-age smokers, potentially with new warning ads.

It was the third significant spike in four years.
