The San Diego County Taxpayers Association has come out against San Diego Unified’s proposed bond measure that voters will see on the November ballot. The 30-year borrowing measure, which would bring in $3.5 billion through a property tax increase, is the largest bond in the school district’s history. It also marks the third time in a decade that San Diego Unified has asked taxpayers for additional funding for capital improvement projects.

Bill allowing schools to permit medical cannabis use passes Calif. Legislature
California school districts could decide whether to allow their K-12 students who use cannabis for medical conditions to consume it on campus under a bill passed by the state Legislature on Monday and headed to Gov. Jerry Brown. SB1127, by Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, would allow school districts to adopt policies allowing students with special needs or severe disabilities to use medical cannabis on campus. The bill does not require school districts to create policies but permits them to decide if they want to allow it.

The School Shootings That Weren't
How many times per year does a gun go off in an American school? We should know. But we don't. This spring the U.S. Education Department reported that in the 2015-2016 school year, "nearly 240 schools ... reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting." The number is far higher than most other estimates.
