Sacramento schools remove controversial air cleaners after experts, teachers raise concerns
The Sacramento City Unified School District removed controversial air purifiers from classrooms this week and will begin testing the devices for how effectively they clean the air and whether they potentially released harmful chemicals, district officials confirmed. As part of its reopening effort, the school district bought thousands of air cleaners, replacement filters and bulbs last year through a more than $6 million contract with Johnson Controls. But several experts identified potential concerns about the V-PAC SC air cleaners, saying the devices the district purchased are overpriced, inefficient and have unnecessary and unproven technology.

Teachers Union Head: Examples Of Success And Trust Key To Reopening Schools
President Biden wants most K-8 schools to be ready to go back to in-person learning by the end of April. The problem is teachers and administrators don't agree on how to do it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week made its case for in-person learning, arguing that data from K-12 schools that took precautions — like wearing masks, social distancing and ventilating rooms — show little evidence that in-person classes contributed meaningfully to the spread of COVID-19.

County’s Work Linking Data of Youngest Students Could Be Model for Education Leaders
A study of how San Diego County collected early education data could lead to more effective teaching strategies throughout the state, officials said Thursday. The report highlights how the county successfully linked data between preschool and kindergarten – something no other county in the state has done effectively. The San Diego County Office of Education accomplished the goal by linking students’ preschool records to the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System records established for each child upon entry to kindergarten.
