Local commission honors OCDE alternative education students for their personal reflections of hope and resilience
A local commission that advocates on behalf of incarcerated youth is giving students enrolled in OCDE’s alternative education program the chance to express themselves through the written word. In partnership with OCDE and the Orange County Probation Department, the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) of Orange County hosted its fourth annual essay contest to honor current and post-secondary students not only for their resilience but for their self expression.

Spooky fun at the Dino Dash in Tustin
After the serious running and bicycling was done, families got into the Halloween spirit Sunday at the Dino Dash, held to raise money for benefit Tustin students. The popular event hosted by the Tustin Public Schools Foundation featured running races of 10 kilometres and 5 kilometres and biking tours of up to 50 kilometres in the morning at The Market Place. After there was a 2K fun run and costume contest that drew lots of fun entries.

Vaccinations for California kids ages 5 to 11 could begin this week
California kids ages 5 to 11 could be able to get Covid-19 vaccinations by the end of the week. Centers for Disease Control Director Rochelle Walensky signed off on Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 earlier today, the final federal step for its emergency use authorization, according to the Associated Press.

Centers for Disease Control approval brings Covid vaccine for kids one step closer
Vaccine advisors to the U.S. Centers of Disease Control voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, according to CNN. On Friday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in children ages 5 to 11, saying that clinical trials of the vaccine showed that the vaccine was 90.7% effective in preventing Covid-19 in children in children ages 5 to 11.

LAUSD to offer voluntary coronavirus vaccines to kids 5 to 11
The Los Angeles Unified School District announced Tuesday, Nov. 2, it will make COVID-19 vaccines available to children ages 5 to 11 at schools for those who want them, though it's not currently requiring students in this age group to get the shots.
