Along with thousands of other people around the country expressing similar viewpoints, Roni Burns-Ellis turned to Facebook Tuesday, Sept. 4, to condemn Nike for featuring controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick in an ad. But as principal of McGaugh Elementary in Seal Beach, Burns-Ellis drew her own controversy.

Foster kids benefit from LA County partnership with ride sharing
For the more than 18,000 foster youth in Los Angeles County, frequent moves can quickly derail their educational careers, but a partnership between the county office of education and a local ride sharing service has helped students stay on track. One year ago, the Los Angeles County Office of Education began a pilot partnership with HopSkipDrive, a ride-sharing company that specializes in child transportation, to give foster students a regular and reliable ride from where they are living back to the same school each day.
