Irvine high school senior builds and races self-driving vehicle at MIT camp |
Matthew Tang was browsing the Internet, looking for ways to spend the summer before his senior year in high school. The Irvine teenager with a passion for engineering and computer science came across a perfect opportunity: An all-expense-paid trip to build a self-driving car at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tang, who goes to Northwood High School, was among 98 rising seniors from around the country selected to participate in the 2017 MIT Beaver Works Summer Institute and develop autonomous race cars, autonomous drones or artificial intelligence assistants like Apple’s Siri. |

Why this nonprofit is taking Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA out of museums and into schools |
Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA is taking over museums and galleries across Southern California, but visiting those venues isn't the only opportunity for students to interact with its content. Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA and the LA Promise Fund kicked off its opportunities for students to engage in art – like its student art contest – by bringing arts activities to over 300 students in the central courtyard at Manual Arts High School in South Los Angeles Wednesday morning. |
