Placentia-Yorba Linda district asking for input on map for voting districts for school board
Boundaries for dividing the communities of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District into voting areas are being considered. The school board has committed to changing in 2018 the way its members are elected to a system using geographic districts, verses the current “at-large” process of having all voters select from all the candidates.

First-day jitters, excitement at Las Lomas Elementary School in La Habra
As kindergarten students walked onto campus Monday morning, some clung a bit more tightly to their parents. Others were ready to break away for the first day of school. Las Lomas Elementary School in La Habra was one of nine schools in the La Habra City School District to begin the school year on Monday, Aug. 21. The school, which has about 385 students in kindergarten through second grade, also has two transitional kindergarten classes this year.

Villa Park Elementary School declared rat-free after summer sweep
Just in time for the start of the school year on Wednesday, Aug. 23, Villa Park Elementary School received a clearance letter declaring an end to a rat infestation in which a dozen people were bitten by mites. The all-clear came from the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District Tuesday morning, just one day before students returned for classes.

Orange County teacher builds $50 million a year business with learning materials
Rachelle Cracchiolo started as a teacher and in the 70’s and realized instructors didn’t have much variety in teaching materials. She started the business in her garage while raising two babies by herself and teaching. It has grown into a $50 million a year plus international business.
