Placentia-Yorba Linda to offer full-day kindergarten at all 21 elementary schools |
By next fall, all kindergarteners in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District will have the same daily schedule as the rest of their schools. PYLUSD officials announced recently that it will transition to full-day kindergarten at all 21 elementary sites beginning in 2020-21. The move scales up a successful pilot program that brought full-day kindergarten classes to Brookhaven, Glenknoll, Morse, Topaz and Woodsboro elementary schools this year. The Tustin and Saddleback Valley unified school districts similarly adopted full-day kindergarten at all of their campuses in August.

Average teacher pay in California public schools rose to $82,746 last school year, an increase of 2.6 percent from the prior year, new state data show. Teacher pay was highest in Silicon Valley’s Mountain View-Los Altos Union High school district, where teachers earned, on average, about $136,500. A teacher making that salary still likely could not afford the median-priced home in Mountain View, which sold for about $1.7 million late last year, according to tracking firm Zillow.com.

Vending machine dispenses no-cal brain food that has Ceres teachers, students excited |
The new vending machine at Adkison Elementary School in the Ceres Unified School District doesn’t serve snacks or sugary drinks. Its products are made from cellulose pulp and intended only as food for thought. Still, as the so-called Bookworm went into use for the first time last week, children were hungry for what its shelves held. Student Sharon Wheeling was the first to step up. She held forth a gold token she’d earned, embossed with “I love books,” and dropped it in a slot.
