On National School Nurse Day, here are 4 things you might not know about school nurses
Each year, National Nurses Week is recognized from May 6 through May 12, which, not coincidentally, is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. And the Wednesday within that week is annually celebrated as National School Nurse Day to honor the contributions of professional nurses in educational settings. School nursing is, in fact, its own specialized practice that goes way beyond Band-Aids and temperature checks to support the long-term health, wellness and academic success of students. Laguna Beach school district launches summer enrichment program
The Laguna Beach Unified School District plans to offer additional learning opportunities to students of all ages through summer workshops. Little return for seniors, but apparently big return for San Francisco Unified
San Francisco Unified teachers made a surprise offer over the weekend to let high school seniors  return to school before school ends. An analysis by the San Francisco Chronicle of the details shows the agreement provides  little for students but a lot for the coffers of the school district — about $12 million by barely complying with requirements for additional state funding.

SDUSD Superintendent Cindy Marten Confirmed As US Deputy Education Secretary
San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Marten was confirmed Tuesday as the nation's next deputy education secretary. The U.S. Senate voted 54-44 to confirm Marten, who was nominated for the post earlier this year by the Biden administration. Once Marten is sworn into office, she will assume the federal post after more than three decades as an educator in San Diego, including eight years as superintendent of SDUSD.

All 4-year-olds in California could go to kindergarten for free under a new proposal from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration, part of a broad new education spending package made possible by the state’s surprise budget surplus. 7M meals served to help Santa Ana students stay focused in school
When money is tight, and food is short, 10-year-old Daniel Mascorro isn’t picky.  “A lot of meals in stores are expensive, and these meals are free, so I feel good about these meals,” Daniel said.  Daniel is one of more than 45,000 students and their families who have been helped by the Santa Ana Unified School District’s meal program. The fifth grader is the youngest of three children in his family and attends Martin Elementary School in Santa Ana.
