Three of 10 student athletes could get kicked off team for missing LAUSD vaccine deadline |
An Oct. 31 COVID-19 vaccine deadline could force thousands of high school athletes and musicians to the sidelines in the Los Angeles Unified School District, officials confirmed on Monday. About 70% of students participating in sports, band and drill had submitted documentation of at least one vaccine dose as of Monday. Those under 18 will need evidence of two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by Oct. 31 and the doses must be three weeks apart. If they are 18, they could receive the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Cal State Fullerton Hosts Critical Race Theory Panel Amid Heated National Debate |
Across America, there is a heated debate among policymakers, elected officials, parents and local school board leaders over critical race theory as many people have attempted to tie the theory to ethnic studies. Some are worried the theory will cause divisiveness and what some call “reverse racism.” Others say it’s an attack on white people.
But academics who are familiar with and teach the theory, say the heated debate has been driven by confusion and misinformation about what critical race theory actually is.

Students find many benefits in running the LA Marathon |
Students are discovering that training for and competing in the Los Angeles Marathon is an ideal way to build resilience, cope with stress and achieve goals, according to a feature in the New York Times. Over the past three decades, a nonprofit called Students Run L.A. has helped more than 50,000 middle and high school students in Southern California participate in the annual footrace, a 26.2-mile trek from Dodger Stadium to Century City. Most of those students are from low-income communities, and nearly all went on to attend college.

Rancho Santa Fe Lawyers Sue San Diego Schools Seeking Religious Exemption to COVID Vaccine |
A Rancho Santa Fe law firm known for championing conservative causes has sued the San Diego Unified School District over the lack of religious exemption in its vaccine requirement. At issue is the fact that COVID-19 vaccines were developed using standard laboratory-grown cell lines that were derived for abortions performed decades ago. “Our client’s faith prevents her from taking any of the currently available COVID-19 vaccinations due to their taint with aborted fetal cells. As a result, according to the district’s vaccination mandate, she must either abandon her faith or enroll in independent, online study,” said Paul Jonna, a partner at LiMandri & Jonna LLP.
