Newsom budget includes naloxone for middle and high schools while largely avoiding cuts
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday pledged to provide naloxone — the overdose reversal drug — to every middle and high school, a low-cost but pressing need in a proposed education spending plan that would sustain school budgets but largely end a massive recent expansion of K-12 and college funding.

Congress made free school meals for all disappear. Now students are going hungry
As schools around the country reopen following winter break, their students are being reminded of the lunch debt they've racked up this school year – an ugly reality that follows the end of federal assistance that paid for school meals for more than 50 million American students during the pandemic.

The five El Camino College students behind 3D printing startup ‘Techtonic 3D’ wear many hats – they are scholars, engineers, inventors and entrepreneurs. Juggling each of the roles can be tiresome, cofounder and fourth-year El Camino College student Moises Santander said, but the prospect of bringing a new high-speed, user-friendly 3D printer to the market is a powerful motivator.

AUSD Notes: Various full-, part-time jobs available in the Alameda schools
School districts cannot thrive without the support of their communities, and just as this district prides itself on being a good neighbor, so too are we ever-grateful for the neighborly way this community treats its district. On that note, we want to be sure our community knows of the AUSD jobs available right now. We’re especially looking for paraprofessionals to work one-on-one or in small groups with students needing extra support, custodians to maintain the cleanliness of our facilities, food service workers to prepare for and serve breakfasts and lunches to students and gardeners to tend to our outside areas. Depending on the job, these are either part-time (two to five daily hours) or full-time positions (eight hours a day).
