Broadway camp students dive deep into performance training |
Every August for the past 10 years, the Arts & Learning Conservatory in Costa Mesa has been holding a week-long intensive theater program called Summer Broadway Camp. Students attending this year learned and performed excerpts from “Hamilton,” “Matilda” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Throughout the academic year, the conservatory offers after-school theater programs to students at 26 elementary schools in Orange County that have had their arts programs cut. The summer camp is also open to high school students. |

Kindergarten vaccinations scarily scarce at 57 San Diego County schools |
A state health officials’ report last month that vaccination rates for California seventh-graders had reached record highs was great to see, especially after an April report that vaccination rates for kindergartners had hit a 15-year high. A state law that took effect last year and ended the practice of allowing parents to cite personal beliefs and refuse to vaccinate their school-age children is paying off. |

Ready for the solar eclipse? Here are some tips for watching it safely |
One of the most exciting astronomical events in a long while will sweep across the sky on Monday. It’s the first time in 38 years the United States will experience a total solar eclipse. Unfortunately, all of us here in Orange County will only experience a partial eclipse, as about 60 to 65 percent of the sun will be obscured by the moon at the peak of the event. |
